$5 Keyboard Stand

The stand for my Roland D-5 synthesizer was wobbly. I was too cheap to buy a better one. Then one day the local hardware store had 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC pipe on sale. Five dollars and a couple of hours with a hacksaw later, I had a new portable keyboard stand. For a few dollars more I added a music desk.

The diagrams below show you how to build your own stand. Adjust the lengths of the b and e pieces if necessary to accommodate the depth and width of your instrument.

The exploded diagrams don't show that you need to rotate the sides of the stand inward at right angles to the back. Likewise, tilt the top of the music desk backward a bit and rotate the front up to a right angle with it. Put some corrugated board on the music desk so your music doesn't fall between the pipes.

You could glue the pieces together, but don't. They hold together adequately with friction, and you can fold the legs in for travel.
