GoogleDate
by Rick Hyman
Freeware for OS 8/9 and OS X.
You can perform Google searches efficiently by adding various search criteria. One criteria is the range of dates a page was last indexed. You can specify only pages indexed in the past 3 moths by adding "date:3" to your Google search criteria (without the quotes." The only valid numbers you can use in this criteria are 3, 6 and 12.
You can also specify a date range for the most recent index of pages returned in a search. For example, you can specify "daterange:2451729-2451909" in your search criteria (without the quotes). What is this date range? It specifies July 4, 2000 to December 31, 2000 in Julian date format. Google requires Julian dates be used. A Julian date specifies the number of days since January 1, 4713 B.C. Sometimes Julian dates specify decimals, but Google doesn't like decimals. Some more details are included in the readMe file, but the bottom line is you cannot calculate Julian dates without some help.
So, I created GoogleDate to calculate Julian Dates for you. GoogleDate actually takes two forms. "GoogleDate" is a simple Applescript that runs under Mac OS 8/9 (and OS X for that matter). It can convert single dates into Julian Dates.
"GoogleDateX" is a complete date calculator that runs under Mac OS X. It computes a date range from two input dates. It can also convert dates to Modified Julian Date and Day of Year. It can add and subtract durations, calculate a duration from two dates and more. It has been tested under OS X 10.2 and later, but not 10.1 or earlier versions.
The "GooglePlex" folder contains both versions of the application and instructions, and the archived folder is made available in stuffed, zipped and dmg formats.
